King Rama II
Memorial Park & Museum : The
memorial park is located on the
banks of the Mae Klong River near
Amphawa. It comprises botanical
gardens, and an ethnological museum
in a cluster of four traditional
Thai teak houses.
Damnernsaduak
Floating Market : This is
Thailands largest and most
authentic floating market, which is
open daily from pre-dawn until mid
morning.
The
Rose Garden
Thai Cultural Village :
Attractions include extensive, well
maintained gardens, excellent
restaurants, an 18-hole golf course,
swimming pool, tennis courts, an
artificial lake with paddle boats,
elephant rides and a childrens
playground. The daily Thai Village
Cultural Show is a popular tourist
attraction. First class hotel
accommodation or traditional Thai
houses are available.
Thai Human
Imagery Museum :
Life-size and very realistic
fiberglass replicas of ordinary and
famous Thai people; attractive
gardens, snacks and light Thai meals
available.
Sanam Chan
Palace & Ya-le Monument :
This palace was constructed during
the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama
VI) in 1907 and is now used a the
Provincial Town Hall. The Ya-le
monument in front of the Chali
Mongkhon At Pavilion was dedicated
to the Kings favourite dog which
was shot dead by an envious
courtier.
Phra Pathom
Chedi : This is one of the
largest chedis in the world, and one
of the most revered of all Buddhist
structures. At 380 feet high and
glistening like gold in the
sunlight, the chedi can be seen for
miles around. The original chedi,
over which the present chedi has
been built was erected by the Mons
of the ancient Kingdom of
Suwannaphum, resembling Indian
stupas of the 3rd
century. Later, under Khmer
influence, a Brahmin prang was built
over the stupa. The present chedi
was built in the mid 19th
century during the reign of King
Mongkut.
KANCHANABURI
Bridge Over
The River Kwai : This famous
bridge was built by Allied war
prisoners under Japanese control. An
estimated 16,000 war prisoners and
49,000 labourers died during the
construction of the bridge and the
Death Railway line which leads into
Burma.
War Cemetery :
The cemetery contains the
remains of 6,982 war prisoners who
lost their lives during captivity
under the Japanese army in World War
II.
JEATH War
Museum : JEATH stands for
Japan, England, American, Australia,
Thailand and Holland. The museum is
a reconstruction of a detention hut
for POWs in the Second World War. On
the walls are enlarged photos and
illustrations of the atrocities
against the prisoners, and their
sever living conditions.
Prasart Muang
Sing Historical Park : This
Khmer sanctuary, built 700-800 years
ago, enjoys a beautiful park
setting.
Erawan
National Park : The 7-tiered
Erawan Falls are one of Thailands
most beautiful cascades. Dense
bamboo groves and a lush
mountainside setting support
numerous bird species.
